Reading during mealtime. Outflanked by the toddler

For whatever reason, our child demands to be read to while he eats. I had resisted this for several weeks before we brokered a compromise. Gabriel eats 15 bites, and then Daddy starts reading, but Gabriel MUST KEEP EATING for the reading to continue.

Today, he outflanked me. He dutifully ate his first 15 bites, the book came out, and he did not continue eating, so I did not read. He then read the ENTIRE BOOK ALOUD himself, all 60 pages of Dr. Suess ABC from Aunt Allie’s Alligator to the Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuzz as you can plainly see. And what am I supposed to do, say, “Stop reading”?

Sigh… I just think I’m in charge.
