“Help me eat” and a smart-aleck 3-year-old

Feeding difficulties with Gabriel doth go on. Over the past couple of months, he’s at times demonstrated great self-feeding ability. He also loves to get lots of attention, and demanding to be fed is a good way to do it. Or, waiting for me to tell him to take a bite 15 times in a row before taking a bite is also a good way to get attention. Sometimes I loudly count each bite as he goes along.

Yesterday, I to detach a bit from the in-your-face directions and got myself a bowl of oatmeal at breakfast. I asked him to take a bite of his food while I ate mine. “Help me eat,” I said. And then, while I was eating, he started counting my bites, “1…2…3…”

I suppose that is how I help him eat. Sneaky little so-and-so. Score one for the toddler.
